Justice Denied Today, Justice Delayed Tomorrow

Justice Surya Kant, Judge of the Supreme Court of India, inaugurated a de-addiction centre at the Chanchalguda Central Prison, Hyderabad, on July 4, 2025. The centre was established by the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) in collaboration with the Telangana Prison Department and the Telangana State Legal Services Authority. The initiative aims to provide medical treatment, psychological counselling, and rehabilitative support to inmates battling substance abuse.

Justice Kant emphasized the centre's role in creating second chances for inmates and empowering them to rebuild their lives. He stressed that reformative justice is not just an ideal but also a responsibility. The ceremony was also attended by Justice Sujoy Paul and Justice P. Sam Koshy, who emphasized rehabilitation's compassion and human-centric approach.

The de-addiction centre is a significant step toward reforming lives within the prison system. Its focus on holistic recovery aims to reduce recidivism and allow addicted individuals to re-enter society with dignity and purpose. The event concluded with a tour of the facility, including prison-made products as part of rehabilitation efforts.

This initiative is part of NALSA's vision of building an inclusive, humane justice system that transforms lives. Its mission is to ensure access to justice for all, which involves developing solutions for vulnerable populations like prisoners.
