"No justice" for harassed cop: Accused acquitted as officer's whereabouts unknown

A shocking case has emerged in Hyderabad, highlighting the harrowing experience of a woman constable who was allegedly sexually harassed in 2016. Even worse, the accused has now been acquitted due to the officer's unknown whereabouts and the inability to prove the complaint in court.

In June 2016, the woman constable, who was on her way home, was allegedly intercepted and sexually harassed by an auto-rickshaw driver. When she reached the police control room and raised an alarm, the man pushed her and fled the scene. Fortunately, the accused was arrested based on clues, and a case was filed under Section 354 of the IPC.

During the trial, however, the cop's absence resulted in the police filing a report in court stating that her whereabouts were unknown. As a result, the complaint could not be proved, and the court deemed the testimonies of both the constable and the investigating officer doubtful.

The accused has now been acquitted, leaving the victimized officer without justice. This sad state of affairs sheds light on the urgent need for stricter action to protect women, as well as more comprehensive support and resources for them in the face of sexual harassment.

Conclusion:

"Unfortunately, this is not an isolated incident, and it highlights the inherent challenges and gaps within our legal system in ensuring justice for victims of sexual harassment. Only by addressing these issues can we hope to prevent such atrocities and provide a safe and supportive environment for women," - Female Rights Activist, Lawyer.
