A Rising Trend: Cyber Crime in the Cyberabad Commissionerate

In recent years, the commissionerate has seen a startling rise in cybercrime cases, accounting for nearly a fifth of all crime in 2021.

According to Commissioner Stephen Raveendra, cybercrime reports have increased by a staggering 218% due to the ease of reporting such crimes through a national toll-free helpline.

Unfortunately, crime against women has also risen by 2% in 2021 compared to the previous year. rape cases have increased from 310 in 2020 to 356 in 2021, with the commissioner noting that except for two cases, the remaining accused were known to the victims.

On a more positive note, the commissioner commented on the progress of key cases, such as the Biodiversity flyover accident in 2019, the alleged cheating by Sandhya Convention MD S Sridhar Rao, and the arrests and investigations underway.

The case against Shilpa Chowdary, who allegedly duped several elite individuals, is ongoing with a forensic audit to uncover any hidden assets.

These revelations highlight the importance of continued focus and proactive policing to curb cybercrime and protect women in the region.
