For years, locals and tourists alike have enjoyed the vibrant nightlife and entertainment scene in Hyderabad, particularly along the city's IT corridor. However, recent developments have seen police booking 17 pubs for noise pollution and operating without adequate entertainment licenses. The sound systems of these establishments were even confiscated as part of the enforcement.
As part of a routine inspection on September 28th, authorities visited various pubs in the region, discovering that a minimum of 15 played music too loudly, exceeding the permissible noise limits and thus, violating the regulations. In some instances, noise levels reached up to 88 decibels, while in nearby establishments, sounds levels ranged from 59 to 86 decibels. These findings led to further violations being registered.
The next day, criminal cases were registered against these pubs under Sections 223 and 292 of the BNS. The former pertains to disobedience to a public official's order, and the latter involves public annoyance. Earlier this year, the excise and prohibition department conducted raids on 25 pubs and bars, targeting drug abuse in these establishments. During these operations, six individuals tested positive for drug consumption. The department collaborated with the Telangana Narcotics Bureau to conduct joint raids at eight different locations. Over 130 individuals were tested using drug detection kits, and six of them tested positive for drug consumption at various venues.
These recent actions sent a wave of surprise through the local entertainment industry. However, it remains to be seen what effect these raids and enforcement measures will have on Hyderabad's bustling nightlife scene moving forward.
