Introduction: Addressing the Lok Sabha, Union Minister BL Verma revealed that last year saw 6,995 people in Telangana benefit from counselling services, through 16 dedicated de-addiction centres. This is an increase from previous years, with 6,174 beneficiaries in 2022-23 and 5,924 in 2020-21. Verma highlighted that not only do these centres offer support to those suffering from addiction, but also to their families, providing counseling both during the period of treatment and on home visits after discharge.

The minister also outlined plans to increase awareness through school programmes, with teacher training modules developed to increase awareness about the dangers of drug use and promote education on life skills among students, with information sessions for parents.
