The Society for Cyberabad Security Council (SCSC) and Cyberabad Police have teamed up to create an innovative initiative for increasing awareness about cybercrimes in the city of Hyderabad. Called P.R.O.T.E.C.T (Preventing Risks Online Through Education, Collaboration, and Training), the initiative aims to use collective efforts of mainstream media, social media influencers, students, and the police to educate the public and prevent these incidents.
Cybercrime is compounding at an alarming rate every year, according to Cyberabad Police Commissioner Avinash Mohanty. He emphasized that fear-induced "digital arrest," where people share bank details and personal information with fraudsters, is becoming more common. Mr. Mohanty urged citizens to remember the critical helpline number 1930 to avoid or reduce significant loss, distress, and fear.
DCP Cyber Crimes Sreebala stressed the importance of education, collaboration, and constant training to deal with cybercrime. She reminded citizens that these crimes not only cause monetary loss but may also cost people their lives. The upcoming Cybercrime Mega Awareness Drive on December 18, 2024, will continue to emphasize these crucial points.
With the belief that everyone from individuals to prominent figures is at risk, SCSC General Secretary Ramesh Kaza stressed the importance of the "Each One, Teach One" approach. In his statement, he emphasized that through collective awareness and collaboration, cybercrimes can be combated effectively.
The initiative will continue to propagate through two teams, consisting of police officers and SCSC volunteers. These teams will engage with the public through interactive sessions, Nukkad Natak plays, and other such awareness activities. The general public will be reached out to at banks, parks, schools, colleges, corporate offices, malls, metro stations, and other public hubs.
Stay tuned for more updates on this innovative initiative to create a secure digital future for all.
