Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the Ayushman Bharat Vaya Vandana scheme on October 29, 2024, to provide healthcare coverage of up to Rs 5 lakh per year for individuals aged 70 years and above. This scheme is an initiative to provide comprehensive medical facilities to senior citizens across the nation. This plan guarantees financial support for all eligible elderly individuals, regardless of their income or financial standing.

The Ayushman Vaya Vandana Card is a component of the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY) initiative. Any Indian citizen aged 70 or older is eligible for this scheme, which provides complimentary hospital care with a maximum coverage of Rs 5 lakh. The scheme is open to all individuals, regardless of income, and aims to provide a wide range of medical treatments.

According to the National Health Authority (NHA), the scheme is intended to improve senior healthcare accessibility and equitable treatment standards. This initiative ensures that all senior citizens have access to affordable healthcare solutions and can manage their health proactively without concern about finances.

The NHA has released a full state-wise list of hospitals that will accept the Ayushman Bharat Vaya Vandana cards. The list is available for review on the beneficiary portal (beneficiary.nha.gov.in) or via the NHAs Ayushman app. Alternatively, seniors and their families can complete the registration process at PM-JAY empanelled hospitals and common service centers.

This new scheme sets a higher standard for equitable treatment and accessibility to healthcare services for the elderly population.
