Hacked: How a fake call centre in Hyderabad conned 600 NRIs, US citizens daily; 63 arrested

In a recent raid conducted by the Telangana Cyber Security Bureau (TGCSB) on a Madhapur building in Hyderabad, a fake call centre engaging in fraud against US citizens was busted. Led by Director Shikha Goel, the operation uncovered a scamming racket operating under the facade of a legitimate business and targeting hundreds of American victims daily.

The masterminds behind the fraudulent operation were identified as Kaivan Patel and Rupesh Kumar alias Jaddhu from Gujarat. They were also involved with Rupesh's Dubai-based brother, Vickey, and associates Azad and Chanda Manasvini. Together, they set up a fake company called Exito Solutions, which hired 63 employees, including 40 from Northeastern states. These employees were offered salaries of Rs 30,000 per month, transportation, and accommodation.

The scam involved tele-callers who impersonated PayPal representatives. They would falsely alert US citizens of unauthorised transactions and convince them to reveal sensitive banking information. The data collected would then be used to siphon funds. Each caller was tasked with scamming at least 10 people per day, targeting an average of 600 victims. The stolen money would then be converted to cryptocurrency and transferred to digital wallets.

During the raid, police recovered 52 laptops, 63 mobile phones, and 27 employee identity cards. Given that insider access to PayPal customer data appears to have been a factor in the scam, authorities are particularly interested in tracking down Rupesh Kumar and uncovering the full extent of the fraudulent network.
