An anti-drug campaign is underway in 104 villages of Nizamabad District, Telangana, aiming to raise awareness about the dangers of narcotics and adulterated toddy. The two-day campaign, led by the Telangana Anti-Narcotics Bureau (TGANB), involves 26 teams conducting four awareness programs each day. The initiative was inaugurated by TGANB director, Sandeep Shandilya, who emphasized the need for youth to lead the fight against drugs. This campaign comes in response to a recent incident in Kamareddy District, where 83 people had to be hospitalized after consuming adulterated toddy.
Shandilya highlighted the seriousness of the issue, mentioning seizures and arrests connected to toddy abuse and illegal narcotics manufacturing. He also emphasized the message of the campaign: saying no to drugs. The campaign not only aims to raise awareness but also to engage local youth with the distribution of sports kits, aiming to encourage them to join the anti-drug movement and help make Telangana drug-free.
This novel approach to combating drug abuse and raising awareness in rural areas is hoped to be an example for similar initiatives statewide and nationwide.
The campaign, conducted in coordination with various local authorities and medical personnel, is just one initiative in TGANB's fight against illegal narcotics production, trafficking, and abuse.
