According to the Regional Transport Authority (RTA), Telangana state records approximately 32 road accidents daily, with 36% of all fatal accidents involving helmetless two-wheeler riders. To address this crisis, the RTA has devised a plan to establish Road Safety Clubs in schools and colleges across the state. By instilling safe driving habits and creating awareness among the youth, officials hope to curb the high accident rate.
Recent initiative
In a recent initiative under the campaign, the RTA's Central Zone organized a road safety awareness program at the Government ITI College in Mallepally. The event was attended by over 300 students and 50 staff members. Regional Transport Officer Purushottam Reddy and Deputy Transport Commissioner Afrin highlighted the need for motorists and pedestrians to observe key safety measures. They also stressed the importance of the Good Samaritan Law and the critical "golden hour" in saving accident victims.
Interactive session
The event continued with an interactive session between students and officials, who answered numerous questions from the enthusiastic audience. Faculty members commented on the session's excellence, saying it was comprehensive, relevant, and highly informative in addressing road safety concerns.
The program culminated with a memorable message: By empowering students with vital road safety information, the RTA aims to create a safer transport ecosystem in the state, saving lives and fostering a culture of responsible driving and traffic awareness.
