Hyderabad's IT sector is booming, with thousands of hostels facilitating affordable housing for out-of-state residents. However, these hostels lack safety regulations and adequate fire safety measures. Recently, the Cyberabad Police held a meeting with hostel owners to address these issues. The police emphasized the importance of maintaining updated records of paying guests for security purposes and ensuring that all guests adhere to the rules and regulations of the hostels.

Hostel owners must collect essential details, including guests' Aadhaar cards, phone numbers, workplace details, and emergency contact information of a family member. Joint CP Traffic Dr. Gajarao Bhupal highlighted the need for a centralized platform containing detailed hostel information.

The HYDRAA Additional Director (Fire) emphasized the importance of fire safety measures, noting that 75% of hostels lack compliance with fire safety rules. He emphasized the need for hostels to obtain mandatory fire NOCs and follow safety protocols. SCSC Women Forum Director Mamatha stated that the Safe Stay Project had launched 10 key guidelines to enhance hostel security and comfort, and that they would develop a centralized platform providing detailed information on hostels.

The meeting aimed to ensure compliance with safety regulations and improve living conditions for hostel residents, ensuring that Cyberabad remains a safe and well-managed urban hub.

This initiative seeks to ensure that Hyderabad's growing prominence as an IT hub is matched by the implementation of adequate safety measures for its diverse population. Grounded in the belief that safety is a fundamental right, these initiatives are hoped to ensure a greater sense of security for all who live, work and thrive in the region.
