Emergency app for women's safety launched in Hyderabad

Hyderabad has launched a mobile-based application called SHE SAFE. The app is designed to help women in distress reach out to the nearest police station or Margadarshaks in cases of domestic violence, cybercrime, and stalking. The application, which will be available on both Android and iOS platforms, can be accessed via a button on the interface labelled "SOS" for convenience or safety. Among its many functions, the app features "Project Safe Stay," which allows users to access a list of audited hostels, their locations, and compliance percentages. The app also provides tips on cyber safety and has a feature to lodge complaints for users residing in hostels who have had items go missing. The app sends the victim's location via GPS coordinates to command control staff, who will then send out patrol vehicles to the area.

Yedula Krishna, the general secretary of Society for Cyberabad Security Council, said, "The app can transmit an emergency message at the touch of a button. Users can also access 'She Shuttle' and 'Hawkeye' via this application. It is still being designed and may take some time." The initiative has been praised by many residents, specifically those who often find themselves alone in private cabs traveling to and from work.

Kalyani, an employee of a corporate company in Begumpet speaking on the matter said, "This is a very much-needed initiative for the women's safety. Many women work in different sectors, especially in odd hours, and initiatives like these are much needed." The SHE SAFE application is expected to be launched by the end of the year.
