Helmets save lives: analyzing the fatal road accident data in Hyderabad

The devastating impact of not wearing a helmet while riding a motorbike has been starkly revealed in a recent analysis of road accident data in Hyderabad. Out of the 119 two-wheeler riders who were fatally injured in road accidents this year, a staggering 77% were not wearing a helmet. This basic safety precaution could have saved their lives.

As the additional commissioner (traffic), Hyderabad, Anil Kumar, points out, the majority of fatal road accident victims in the city are two-wheeler riders, and the data shows that not wearing a helmet significantly increases the risk of serious injury or death.

The importance of wearing a helmet is further supported by the increase in cases booked for violations like not wearing helmets, driving without a seat belt, and carrying more than the permitted number of passengers. These violations highlight the need for greater awareness and responsibility when it comes to road safety.

It is essential to prioritize safety precautions like wearing a helmet and driving with care to help reduce the number of fatal road accidents and protect vulnerable road users, such as pedestrians, from injury and death. Let's all play our part in making our roads safer for everyone.
