With the festive season around the corner, the Hyderabad City Police hosted a coordination meeting at the Salar Jung Museum Auditorium to ensure the safe and secure celebration of Bakrid. The meeting focused on four key areas: preventing illegal animal transport, maintaining hygiene during animal sacrifice, ensuring uninterrupted civic amenities, and fostering inter-community and official harmony.
To curb unauthorized animal transport, Hyderabad Police Commissioner C.V. Anand announced that police checkpoints would be set up across the city, staffed by veterinary personnel and special dog-catching teams. Religious leaders and community representatives urged citizens to maintain public hygiene and dispose of animal waste only in designated areas. They also emphasized the need for communal harmony and the preservation of Hyderabads cultural spirit of "Ganga-Jamuna Tehzeeb."
The GHMC Zonal Commissioner detailed additional sanitation measures, including the deployment of extra staff and waste collection vehicles, particularly around mosques and community areas. The meeting was attended by officials from the GHMC, Animal Husbandry Department, RTA, Telangana State Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (TGSPDCL), HMWSS&B, public representatives, religious scholars, community members, maulanas, police, and veterinary staff.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Anand emphasized the need for cooperation and coordination among all parties involved to ensure a safe and harmonious celebration of the festival. He urged citizens to report any suspicious activities or illegal animal transport by calling the police hotline.
This year's Bakrid festivities are expected to be particularly meaningful for the city's residents, as they mark the peaceful reunion of communities, government, and religious leaders after the gap of the pandemic.
