Police in Rachakonda, Hyderabad, have taken action against 187 people who have harassed women and girls. In the past month, the Rachakonda Police's She Teams have apprehended 122 adults and 65 minors, according to commissioner G Sudheer Babu. The teams were sent to the field after receiving 241 complaints, out of which, 28 cases were phone harassment, 85 were social media harassment, and 128 were direct harassment incidents.

DCP of the Women Safety Wing, T Usha Viswanath, reported that, apart from the arrests, 71 harassment cases were addressed and 108 individuals underwent counselling. The teams conducted awareness programmes and decoy operations in public spaces including bus stands, railway stations and educational institutes. They also fined 12 men for travelling in women's compartments in the Metro-Rail.

This operation sends a message to would-be harassers and perpetrators, and is a step forward for women's safety in Hyderabad.

'So far, we have primarily been reactive in response to complaints, but we are working on becoming more proactive in the future,' Sudheer Babu told The Hindu.

The crackdown sends a crucial message to would-be harassers and perpetrators. It is also a step forward in efforts to ensure women's safety in Hyderabad.
