A harrowing case out of Hyderabad, India, highlights the often-ignored abuse faced by women in their own homes. Last Friday, a woman named Jayamma allegedly killed a man who was severely drunk. Police have since registered a case against her, with the deceased identified as Katla Srinivas, aged 46.
Srinivas had a long-standing addiction to toddy, a traditional alcoholic drink derived from palm trees. His extended hours spent drinking led to him coming home late, and when he returned, he was often highly inebriated. His daughter, Spandana, worked with a private logistics firm, and she began to notice her father's highly altered state upon arriving home.
On Thursday evening, Srinivas returned home visibly drunk and fell asleep. He went missing that night, and his wife notified their daughter. Spandana reviewed CCTV footage after searching for her father for hours, spotting a woman named Jayamma thrashing her father. Jayamma was allegedly seen kicking and beating Srinivas.
After being called to the scene, police reviewed the CCTV footage and confirmed the violent homicide. The case is still under investigation.
