Honda Enlists Youth in Road Safety Campaign to Meet Zero Traffic Fatality Goal

Youth education vital to developing long-term safety awareness, habits

Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) and Hyderabad Traffic Police jointly conducted a road safety summer camp to educate over 750 youth, 10-15 years old, on traffic rules, pedestrian awareness, and road etiquette. The six-day camp at Hyderabad Traffic Training Park was part of HMSI's "#SaferIndiaOn2Wheels" initiative to develop road safety habits and align with the Government of India's goal to reduce road accident deaths by 50% by 2030 and Honda's global vision of achieving zero traffic fatalities by 2050.

The camp provided a comprehensive learning experience, combining safety education with self-development activities such as self-defense, painting, dance, music, handwriting improvement, and personality building. HMSI has reached over 97 lakh individuals through its road safety programs, including E-Gurukul, a digital learning platform offering age-appropriate road safety modules for children aged 5 to 18.

Road safety remains a significant concern in India, which reports one of the highest rates of traffic fatalities globally. Education initiatives targeting young people are considered critical in developing long-term safety awareness, as habits formed early often persist into adulthood. HMSI's focus on youth education represents a preventative approach to addressing India's road safety challenges.

Attendees participated in real-time traffic scenario sessions, developing skills in hazard prediction, road safety, and personal development. This innovative, preventative strategy may help India meet its road safety goals and keep its young citizens safe.

Conclusion:

Young minds are ripe for education on road safety, and HMSI's summer camp empowers tomorrow's road users with the knowledge and skills needed to navigate India's roads safely. With its vision of zero traffic fatalities and innovative digital platforms like E-Gurukul, HMSI is leading the way in road safety advocacy and education.
