Drawing attention to the safety concerns in Cyberabad's many hostels, Police Commissioner Avinash Mohanty recently hosted a meeting with 225 hostel owners from the Madhapur and Balanagar zones, highlighting a range of issues from fire safety to background checks. Hyderabad, Telangana, is witnessing a massive influx of out-of-state residents flocking to the city's advanced infrastructure, telecom hubs, and high-quality yet affordable hostels, leaving the city with approximately 4,000 hostels to oversee. The meet addressed the necessity of updated records for hostel owners, including Aadhaar cards, recent photographs, contact information, and workplace details of each resident, emphasizing monitoring daily routines and commuting paths.
Fire safety was another crucial area of concern, with HYDRA Additional Director (Fire) highlighting the non-compliance of 75% of hostels and the necessity of fire safety training for staff and obtaining fire safety No-Objection Certificates. The meet concluded with emphasizing the role of collaboration between the Society for Cyberabad Security Council, the police, and hostel owners to improve fire safety measures and ensure Telanganas high security standards. The region's steady growth as a major IT hub and advancement into a global centre for capability centres, healthcare services, and photonics, despite the pandemic, calls for increased responsibility and safety measures.
As Hyderabad emerges as a hub, it is crucial to prioritize the safety and security of residents for the city to maintain its growth and establish itself as an attractive destination on a global scale.
