CISF personnel sacked for Rs 60 lakh embezzlement of troops' NPS funds

Roop Singh Meena, a sacked central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel, was booked for allegedly embezzling Rs 60.26 lakh from the National Pension Scheme (NPS) accounts of 5,640 personnel. The money was siphoned off when Meena was posted to the National Industrial Security Academy (NISA) in Hyderabad. The case, which was unearthed by NISA, has been transferred to the Central Bureau of Investigation for further investigation.

The discovery, which was made by the National Industrial Security Academy (NISA) in Hyderabad, has exposed the horrific abuse of power by a CISF officer. Meena, who was attached to the NPS section of NISA from November 2016 to November 2020, allegedly used his privileged position to siphon Rs 60.26 lakh from the NPS accounts of 5,640 personnel. The funds were meant to provide secure retirement benefits to the hardworking CISF employees.

The case was initiated after a fact-finding inquiry was conducted into irregularities in the NPS contributions. The inquiry found that the amount was allegedly embezzled by the former head constable, who had been dismissed from service with effect from July 6, 2023, in a separate case. The Central Bureau of Investigation will now conduct a detailed probe into the matter.

This alarming incident not only highlights the need for improved internal controls and auditing procedures within CISF but also raises concerns about the vulnerability of government funds and personnel pensions. Sadly, this is not the first case where esteemed government institutions have been compromised by insiders who exploit their positions for personal financial gain. It is imperative that the CBI investigation is thorough and swift, ensuring that justice is served and necessary measures are taken to prevent such fraudulent activities in the future.
