Google's cybersecurity hub in Hyderabad aims to strengthen India's digital safety infrastructure

Amid rising cybercrime in India, Google has launched its first Google Safety Engineering Centre (GSEC) in the Asia-Pacific region in Hyderabad. The GSEC is the fourth in the world and the first outside North America. It will serve as a regional hub for the APAC region to combat digital threats and strengthen cyber security.

The centre, launched on Wednesday by the Telangana Chief Minister, state IT Minister and other government officials, aims to:

* Protect users from online frauds

* Strengthen enterprise and government cybersecurity

* Build responsible AI solutions

Heather Adkins, Google founding member of the Google Security Team, shares that Google Pay alone prevented INR 13,000 crore worth of financial fraud in 2023. Estimated cybercrime losses in India are projected to hit INR 20,000 crore in 2025.

The launch of the GSEC comes after Google's Safety Charter for India's AI-led transformation, unveiled on June 17 at the Safer with Google Summit in Delhi.
