Local Rap Label Leader, Others Arrested in Major Drug Bust

A recent drug bust in East Baton Rouge Parish has resulted in the arrest of the leader of a local rap label, among others, and sheds light on the dangers of the drugs themselves.

After months of investigation into a Baton Rouge-based polydrug trafficking group with known ties to the rap label Major League Entertainment, law enforcement officials conducted a massive drug bust. The bust stemmed from an investigation that began in early July and involved 12 locations. After conducting extensive surveillance and making a controlled purchase of crack cocaine, authorities executed search warrants on the 12 locations and made arrests while seizing a plethora of drugs and items.

The drugs and items confiscated included 245 pounds of marijuana, over 2,200 lethal doses of fentanyl, 2.6 pounds of synthetic marijuana, 243 dosage units of Hydrocodone, 150 ml of Promethazine, digital scales, thousands of dollars, and multiple weapons.

East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff Sid Gautreaux stated, This type of criminal enterprise doesn't just deal in narcotics. It brings violence, stolen weapons, and danger to every neighborhood it touches. I'm proud of the work done by our gang intelligence and enforcement division and the many local, state, and federal partners who helped bring this operation to a close. Their dedication undoubtedly saved lives.

In addition to the leader of the local rap label, Jornell Keelen, 31, others were arrested and charged with various crimes. This includes conspiracy to distribute schedule II (affidavit warrant), possession with intent to distribute schedule I narcotics, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

This drug bust is a testament to the importance of law enforcement's efforts in tackling drug trafficking and its harmful consequences on communities. While some may perceive drug crimes as solely a health issue, the seizure of weapons and the correlation with violence highlight the connection between drugs and violent crime.
