A Perth grandmother and accused meth smuggler has told a Japanese court she travelled overseas to meet romantic interests before her current alleged predicament.
Donna Nelson is accused of importing two kilograms of methamphetamine into Japan and faces a verdict in December, after 22 months in custody.
Her defence lawyers have argued she was the victim of a romance scam and was unaware the suitcase she was given contained drugs.
On Thursday, Nelson told the court she had previously met two other romantic interests while travelling overseas.
Her daughters, who were in court for her testimony, say they hope judges will understand their mother was a victim and was not aware of the drugs.
The court has previously been told Nelson was seeking a 'black man' partner and had shared interests and experiences with such a person.
Nelson claimed on Thursday that her former husband left her while she was pregnant with their fifth child and spoke of experiencing discrimination.
