The brother of a Yemeni man killed in a hit-and-run incident in Kerala has rejected the possibility of pardoning the nurse and refused any financial settlement, according to a report by The Times of India.
This development comes as the slain man's family met with Kerala billionaire MA Yusuf Ali to discuss financial assistance to pardon the nurse.
The man's brother, Yemeni citizen Ali Faiz Ali, was quoted as saying "mercy killing is a crime and cannot be accepted just for money."
Ali reportedly said that if the nurse is pardoned, the whole of India would be embarrassed, and it would set a bad precedent since the killing was premeditated and cold-blooded.
The next phase of negotiations will revolve around finalising the blood money, with Kerala billionaire MA Yusuf Ali stepping forward to offer financial assistance if needed.
This development has added a new dynamic to the case, which has captured the nation's attention. The case has also brought attention to the issue of Muslim law's applicability in Indian courts.
