Their third device, the Nothing Phone 3, introduces a new transparent design and flagship specs. However, with several software issues and a vague pricing strategy, it falls short of its aspirations.
Nothing, a London-based startup founded by former OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei, has made headlines globally with its inaugural offerings, the ear (1) TWS and the Nothing Phone 1. The company garnered attention via its quirky, transparent design and solid hardware for the budget-conscious consumer. With their latest device, the Nothing Phone 3, the company aims higher, adopting a transparent design and flagship-level specs but comes up short on the software side.
The Phone 3 is priced at INR 79,999 (~USD 899) in India, a bold pricing strategy for a new brand looking to make a mark. It uses a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor and has an impressive 6.6-inch AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate. Paired with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, the hardware certainly aims to compete with the likes of the OnePlus 11 5G and other affordable flagships.
The Phone 3, however, falls short on the software front. Several users have reported numerous software glitches, including inconsistent animations, the odd random restart, and spotty lag. The phone otherwise runs a near-stock version of Android 13, with Nothing's tailor-made theming and customization options.
While the Phone 3 offers novel novelty with its design and a solid hardware package, its current software issues and a vague pricing strategy make it hard to recommend, especially amidst established competitors with more mature offerings.
