DMK members exit DISHA review meet, blame 'bias'

Walk-outs occur over 'bias' against DMK in review meet of DISHA (Destructive Improvised Sound Devices for Harbour Area) programme. DMK MPs have walked out of the review meeting of the Coast Guard's DISHA project, alleging 'bias' against the party and demanding an apology for "mischievous" remarks made against them.

The MPs were upset with Indian Coast Guard officials' presence at the meeting and accused them of interfering with the review by reading from pre-written statements. The DMK, which has consistently criticized the project, alleges that the BJP administration is biasedly favoring the implementation of the project.

According to reports, the DMK MPs demanded an apology from Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai for alleging that the DMK was trying to create a rift between the centre and the state.

This development comes amid ongoing national debates about the government's responsiveness and accountability to parliamentary proceedings.

The DISHA project, developed to counter underwater terrorist threats to harbors, ports, and ships, was sanctioned in August 2021 with an initial amount of Rs. 123 crore for the procurement of equipment and infrastructure development from the central budget.
