With Karun Nair's poor run continuing, former India cricketer Deep Dasgupta has recommended the nation's selectors choose B Sai Sudharsan ahead of the Karnataka batsman for the last two Tests against England.
In 3 innings so far in the series, Nair has contributed just 131 runs, failing to reach double figures in each of the last two tests. This comes after a disappointing IPL for the right-hander, where he scored just 168 runs at an average of 14.67 for the Royal Challengers Bangalore.
Speaking to ESPN Cricinfo, Dasgupta said: "I would probably bring in Sudharsartan, because that aggressive intent that Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul had in the first Test would be there. You would have that fluent stroke maker who is in form, who is fresh, who can put England under pressure."
"Maybe not necessarily make it a left-right combination, but make it a fresh pair of batters who can put the hosts on the back foot."
The 23-year-old Sai Sudharsan, who also hails from Karnataka, scored an impressive 725 runs at an average of 52.50 in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy T20 tournament played earlier this year.
As India looks to fight back after a crushing defeat at the Oval and with the team's batting looking brittle, Sudharsartan could well be the X-factor needed to turn the series around.
The final test will be played at Old Trafford in Manchester, starting on September 10, 2022. With 2 matches remaining, the series is levelled at 1-1.
