'Press Has To Learn To Be Truthful': Trump Threatens To Sue WSJ Over Epstein Letter Report

US President Donald Trump erupted on Twitter yesterday, threatening to sue the Wall Street Journal over a report claiming that the Florida Attorney General, who is overseeing the prosecution of Jeffrey Epstein, had briefed Trump's team on potentially clearing his name.

According to the Journal, the letter from Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi, to Trump attorney Jay Sekulow, suggested that Trump could intervene in the prosecution of Epstein, who took his own life in August 2019 while awaiting trial, and assert that the president was unaware of any allegations against him.

In a series of tweets, Trump blasted the Journal for allegedly lying and being dishonest, stating that Pam Bondi "is a total professional - not a cheap politician like others, and an excellent Attorney General." He also claimed the Journal was just trying to impress disgraced former Attorney General Jeff Sessions, who previously oversaw the prosecution of Epstein but never acted upon the allegations.

According to Trump, the Journal "reported a story that I ordered Pam Bondi to close Epstein investigation despite her declaring in writing that she would never do it. All lies - yet more dishonest media!..."

He further ordered, or at least demanded, that his current Attorney General "produce any and all pertinent Grand Jury testimony, subject to Court approval."

The tweets are the latest in a series of attacks against the media from the president, who has reportedly told aides that he feels more emboldened to take on the press after his impeachment acquittal.

Only time will tell if he also feels emboldened enough to take his complaints to the courts, albeit with more solid legal grounding than he's managed in the past.
