Mumbai's bullion markets saw a subdued performance today, with gold prices dipping slightly lower in response to global trends. Both 22-carat and 24-carat gold were traded around the Rs. 1,00,000-mark per 10 grams. Silver also saw a slight pullback, hovering at Rs. 1,15,900 per kg.

The sentiment was hit by a mix of factors. On the one hand, investors continued to weigh rising possibilities of a global recession, which could dent precious metal prices. On the other, the US Federal Reserve's hawkish stance and the possibility of further interest rate hikes have also led to increased volatility. In recent weeks, gold has struggled to find direction, revealing a tense battle between bullish and bearish trends.

However, analysts still see this pullback as a buying opportunity for long-term investors. "We advise investors to use this dip as an opportunity to create a long-term portfolio. Any favourable development on the geopolitical front or uncertainty around the US Fed policy could lead to buying opportunities," a analyst told BloombergQuint.

The short-term outlook may remain bearish, but with inflation still running hot and central banks turning more hawkish, the upside surprises could be limited. Despite the pullback, Rs. 1,00,000-level has proved to be a strong support for gold in India, and the metal may be well-positioned to appreciate significantly if economic headwinds soften.

The question now is whether buyers will seize the opportunity presented by today's lower prices or if the downturn will lead to increased selling pressure, potentially extending the bear market.

Animesh Saxena, Vice President & Head of Research, Drip Capital, said that the bulls need to protect the immediate floor in the coming sessions to avoid a further fall and a breakthrough to $1,800 levels.
