Confusion continues to surround the political allegiance of NCP(SP) MLA Rohit Pawar, with Minister Nitesh Rane claiming that the MLA has been "in touch" with BJP leaders, despite being part of the Sharad Pawar-led NCP (Nationalist Congress Party).
Rane, who is the son of Union Minister Narayan Rane, claimed that though Rohit Pawar is part of the Sharad Pawar-led NCP (Nationalist Congress Party), his heart lies with the BJPs
Speaking to mediapersons, Rane claimed that he knew this when the MLA from Chiplun in Maharashtra's Ratnagiri visited his home along with Maharashtra Congress president Balasaheb Thorat's son.
Rohit Pawar could not be reached for comment.
"He (Rohit Pawar) had come to my house with Jayant Thorat. I knew then that he was in touch with BJP leaders. I am not saying he should join BJP, but I am saying that he has good relations with BJP leaders," Rane said.
Rohit Pawar, who is the grandson of Sharad Pawar, joined the NCP (Nationalist Congress Party) of his grandfather in October 2019.
Since then, there have been speculations about his political future and possible allegiance to the BJP.
Earlier this week, Rohit Pawar had sparked speculation about his political intentions when he met Devendra Fadnavis, the leader of BJP, at the latter's residence on Monday.
Fadnavis, former chief minister of Maharashtra, described the meeting as "casual".
Rohit Pawar later denied that he was planning to join the BJP and said that he went to Fadnavis' residence to discuss issues related to his constituency and drought-hit areas in Maharashtra's western coast.
The developments come ahead of the assembly polls in Maharashtra, expected to take place in late 2023.
Would Rohit Pawar's potential shift to the BJP come through, it would significantly strengthen the party's chances in western Maharashtra, which currently has limited BJP representation.
For now, it is certain that political intrigue surrounding Rohit Pawar's future is far from done.
