Core Sector Growth Rises to 1.7% in June, Hits 3-Month High

India's core sector growth accelerated to a three-month high of 1.7% in June, according to data released by the Commerce and Industry Ministry. The infrastructure growth came in at 3.6% despite global headwinds stemming from the war in Russia and Ukraine and the downturn in China. Steel, coal, and electricity output were among the sectors that showed strong growth, expanding by 4.4%, 5.2%, and 2.6% respectively.

The core sector growth data is a positive signal for India's economy, as the country continues to struggle with global economic turmoil. The data suggests that domestic economic activity is stabilizing after the disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and the war in Ukraine.

"This is a promising sign for the economy as a whole," said Rajiv Kumar, Vice Chairman of the NITI Aayog. "The core sector growth is likely to have a positive impact on the Q2 GDP growth."

The latest indicators show that the Indian economy is on the path to recovery, aided by sound macroeconomic management and continued government support for key sectors. However, experts warn that challenges remain, including global commodity prices and the weakening global demand.

"The government is monitoring the situation closely and will take whatever steps are necessary to ensure that the economy stays on a stable growth path," said Kumar.
