A gunman shooting indiscriminately in a Manhattan office building terrified passersby and killed at least five people, including a cop, in the deadliest attack on NYPD officers since September 11.

The gunfire erupted just before 2 p.m. at a crowded business near New York City's Times Square. The shooter, who was dressed in business attire, pulled out a gun and fired several shots inside the building, according to police.

Among the five victims was an officer from the NYPD's 1st Precinct who was responding to the shooting. The cop was shot as he approached the suspect, according to police sources. The suspect was also killed, apparently by his own hand.

"This was yet another brutal crime in our city," said Mayor Eric Adams during a press conference late afternoon. "He (the shooter) shot multiple people, and then when the police officer approached him, he turned his gun on himself."
