Bosch's CEO, Stefan Hartung, stated that the company requires additional support from the U.S. government to fully expand its California chip factory, which it is acquiring from TSI Semiconductors. Bosch plans to invest $1.5 billion in the Roseville facility to retool it for the production of silicon carbide chips, which are crucial for enhancing the range of electric vehicles. The new facility, named Robert Bosch Semiconductor LLC, is expected to begin production in 2026. While the state of California has already approved a $25 million tax credit for the plant, Hartung emphasized that the full expansion of the facility depends on further support from the U.S. government or California's regional authorities. Bosch views this plant as a key addition to its semiconductor production capabilities, complementing its existing sites in Germany. The acquisition will accelerate Bosch's entry into the rapidly growing silicon carbide chip market, which is expanding at a rate of 30% annually.
