India are poised to achieve a famous Test series victory over England at the Oval and head coach Gautam Gambhir has asked his players to give it one "final push" in what will be a "historic and memorable" match.
India are leading the five-match Test series 2-1, and a win at the Oval will secure their first series triumph in England in over 15 years and just their second ever on these shores. The visitors are currently in a strong position, having taken four English wickets in the second innings for 87 runs.
This is not the first time that Gambhir, himself a former Indian opener, has asked his players to go for the kill. Ahead of the fourth Test at The Oval, Gambhir told reporters: Its a great opportunity to make our country proud. Every one of us is eager to play in this Test match and we want to give our best and try and win this Test match and series.
Gambhir added that the team is focused on finishing the series on a high note, despite the challenges presented by a grueling tour that has required the visitors to play 11 consecutive Tests over a period of three months.
We want to get as much momentum as possible, he said. It has been a long summer and a fantastic one for Indian cricket. A lot of players have put in strong performances and contributed to the team and that makes me proud.
