'Disrespectful': Maharashtra Minister Kokate Plays Rummy for 18 Minutes During Assembly Session, Says MLA

A recent probe report has allegedly confirmed what many in Maharashtra's political circle saw and heard firsthandministerial misconduct during a session that should have focused on the state's troubled economy and mounting Covid-19 cases.

According to the report, deputy leader of the NCP in the Assembly and former minister Rajendra Shingne's probing committee observed that senior citizen and minority development minister Abdul Sattar Abdul Nabi Kokate was spotted by many legislators playing the mobile game Rummy for 18 minutes during a crucial discussion in the assembly on November 24.

This was confirmed by NCP MLA Rohit Pawar, who says the report proves the minister was engaged in the activity during the session.

"The report shows that he was playing the game during the entire period of the discussion. This is a disrespect to the entire House and the people of Maharashtra," Pawar told News18.

Pawar has demanded action against the minister, and said that the issue will be raised again during the winter session of the Assembly next month.

The development comes shortly after a special committee formed to probe the allegations against former minister and BJP leader Eknath Khadse for his alleged misconduct in the legislative council.

Khadse was accused of walking out of the assembly session during a discussion on the border dispute with Karnataka and using offensive language to describe the legislators who were present.
