Head-On Collision Claims the Lives of 5 Medical Students, 65-Year-Old Resident

A head-on car collision claimed the lives of five second-year MBBS students and a 65-year-old man in Nellore, Andhra Pradesh on Friday afternoon. The driver, the only survivor, is undergoing treatment at Narayana Hospital.

According to police reports, the five medical students were returning from Buchireddypalem after attending a friends sisters engagement ceremony when their car collided with a truck coming from the opposite direction on a curved stretch of the Mumbai National Highway. The impact led the vehicle to veer off the road and crash into a petty shop attached to a house. The cars mangled remains were found amid shattered glass and debris.

Emergency responders faced difficulty extracting the victims from the car due to the severity of the crash. The deceased students have been identified as Gundla Jeevan Chandra Reddy, L. Naresh Naik, K. Abhishek Raj, G. Abhishai Purushottam, and Gurram Yagnesh. The man inside the shop, N. Venkata Ramanaiah, also died at the scene. Another student, V. Navneeth Shankar, accompanied the group but survived the crash and is currently undergoing treatment at the hospital.

This tragic incident has brought attention to the need for improved road safety measures. Governor S. Abdul Nazeer, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, and YSRCP President Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy have expressed their condolences to the victims families and urged for further preventative measures to be taken.
