Nellore district will soon be home to Andhras first Smart Bazaar, a flagship initiative of the State government, focusing on womens empowerment, sustainable retail, and modern infrastructure.
A recent report highlights that the marketplace, currently under construction, is expected to be completed within the next two to three months.
The bazaar is being built along the banks of the Jaffer Saheb Canal between Satyanarayanapuram Centre Bridge and Maipadu Gate Centre, covering the 4th and 5th divisions of the Nellore Municipal Corporation (NMC).
Once completed, the Smart Bazaar will host a range of shops, including fast-food stalls, tea centres, boutique outlets, and textile shops, thereby granting 200 women direct livelihood opportunities.
This initiative is funded by multiple sources, with Rs 3 crore each from MEPMA and the Swachh Andhra initiative, and the remaining from beneficiary contributions and bank loans.
The project is personally overseen by Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MAUD) Minister Dr Ponguru Narayana, who represents the Nellore City constituency, and NMC engineers.
It is envisioned as a flagship pilot under the coalition governments urban innovation mission and is expected to be inaugurated by HRD and IT Minister Nara Lokesh.
According to a senior municipal official, this initiative is not just a market but a platform for women to achieve financial independence and dignity.
The Smart Bazaar will provide essential amenities such as clean drinking water, electricity, Wi-Fi, public restrooms, 24/7 security, and designated parking zones.
Approximately 3540% of the work has been completed, with officials confident that the remaining construction will be finished within the next three months.
This initiative is one of the largest initiatives of its kind under the new government.
