AP municipal election results: YSRCP wins 14 wards in Kuppam, sweeps Penukonda municipality - updates

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy's Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSCRP) has scored an impressive victory in the municipal elections, winning 14 of the 25 wards counted so far. The party secured victories in multiple municipalities, including Penukonda and Kuppam.

Counting of votes in 54 divisions of 12 municipalities and Nellore Municipal Corporation is currently underway amid tight security. Panchayat Raj Minister Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy has been commended by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy for the results in Kuppam.

Kuppam municipality falls in the Chittoor district and is the home turf of former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and Telugu Desam Party (TDP) president N Chandrababu Naidu. TDP general secretary Lokesh alleged that outsiders were being brought to vote bogusly, fearing the ruling party would lose. He criticized the police for failing to detect electoral malpractices and accused them of collaborating with the ruling party.

The YSRCP is leading in 36 of the 54 divisions, winning 10 of 20 seats in Jaggayyapet, 11 of 20 in Dachepalli, and 18 of 20 in Penukonda. The party has also won in Akiveedu, Buchireddypalem, Bethamcherla, Gurazala, Kamalapuram, and Rajampet municipalities. Counting is still ongoing.
