Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu said his government will implement the 'Talliki Vandanam' job scheme from May, aiming to employ tens of thousands of youth in state-owned industries.
The scheme, a poll promise of the ruling Telugu Desam Party (TDP) ahead of the 2014 elections, aims to tackle unemployment in the state.
"The scheme will be implemented from May this year. We will be offering jobs to about 26,000 youth in both the private and public sectors," Naidu said at a meeting on Saturday evening.
He said the youth were the top priority of his government.
The scheme will offer incentives to industries that hire unemployed youth and also provide monetary assistance to those wanting to start their own businesses.
Each of the state's 175 assembly constituencies will have a 'Talliki Vandanam' cell, which would be responsible for conducting job fairs and providing career guidance to the youth.
"The cells will also guide the youth to avail benefits of various schemes like fee reimbursement, scholarships, and pensions," the chief minister said.
According to the state government's projection, about 12,000 people will get jobs every year in the private sector, while 1,000 each will be hired by the 18 state-owned enterprises and public sector units.
Apart from this, 1,000 people will also be hired in the teaching sector and 1,000 in the police department.
Around 1,000 people will be trained every year to crack the Staff Selection Commission exams, taking the total number of people placed in the central government sector to 5,000.
Naidu said the scheme will be continued for the next three years and assured that there will be no dearth of funds since the state's finances are in order.
"We generated a surplus of 13,000 crore in the last financial year," he said.
