AP to complete 26 irrigation projects on priority basis

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S Jagan Mohan Reddy has promised to prioritize the completion of 26 irrigation projects spanning from Srikakulam to Chittoor. With the aim of expediting the works on these projects, the state has allocated funds to the tune of Rs. 320 crores for the Sangam and Nellore barrages alone.

Speaking at the dedication of the Mekapati Goutham Reddy Sangam Barrage and Nellore Barrage to the nation, CM Reddy stated that the two projects will primarily benefit Atmakur, Kovur, Sarvepalli, Nellore rural, and Kavali constituencies. He asserted that despite the setbacks faced due to the Covid-19 pandemic and the floods in the Penna river for two consecutive years, the state has spent Rs. 320 crores on both projects. This amount is significantly higher than the sum of Rs. 30.85 crores spent by the previous government over a longer period.

The Sangam barrage will provide irrigation to 3.85 lakh acres of land and was named after Y.S Goutham Reddy, former minister of the Andhra Pradesh Cabinet, who unfortunately passed away before witnessing the completion of the project. Reddy expressed pride in being able to complete the projects during his tenure, stating that his father, Dr. Y.S Rajasekhar Reddy, had started the works on the projects back in 2006.
