Nellore Neglected Over Politics: Minister

Ponguru Narayana, the Minister of Municipal Administration and Urban Development, has accused the previous YSRCP government of neglecting the development of Nellore city due to political reasons. Narayana stated that during his tenure as the Municipal Administration Minister in 2014, the government had approved two significant projects: a drinking water supply scheme from Sangam Barrage to Nellore city and an Under Ground Drainage system, each costing Rs 550 crore. Unfortunately, the YSRCP government, which came to power in the 2019 elections, stalled the development of the Sangam Barrage and halted the UGD works, which were 80% complete, solely for political motives.

The Minister assured that these two projects would be completed in a war-footing manner, as Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu promised to release the required funds soon. Narayana continued, saying that they plan to establish 50 parks in Nellore to beautify the city in phases, with 30 already completed and the rest underway.

They are also working on a project to provide mineral water to 30,000 families, each receiving 20 litres per day, at a cost of Rs 2 per litre. Lastly, following the orders of HRD Minister Nara Lokesh, they are transforming all 54 municipal schools like VR High School. The Minister then inaugurated a sweeping machine set up at a cost of Rs 1.28 crores at Stone House Pet area in the city's seventh division.

28 sweeping machines are already operating to transform Nellore into a dust-free city. Local TDP leaders and Nellore Municipal Commissioner Y O Nandan were present at the event.
