Tirupati politicians Roop Kumar Yadav and P. Anil Kumar Yadav have traded barbs in the ongoing spat over the mining industry in the city, with the former defending his new ally MP Vemireddy Prabhakar Reddy. Anil had accused Vemireddy of monopolizing the district's mining industry and intimidating his political opponents, triggering the counterattack from Roop Kumar. The TD deputy mayor dismissed Anils claims as baseless and misleading, speaking at a press meet on Wednesday. He defended Vemireddy's role in the high-purity quartz (HPQ) sector, asserting that his entry into the industry was to attract legal investment and industrial growth to Nellore.
Roop Kumar also accused Anil of turning on the people who supported his political ascent, alleging that the former minister extorted hospital owners during the Covid-19 pandemic while Vemireddy provided free medical aid. He also claimed that Anil demanded Rs 7 lakh from a Dalit youth for a job and that he had links to cricket betting. Meanwhile, Anil has dismissed the attacks, saying he would expose the MP and the deputy mayor together with their corrupt practices. The rift between the two leaders has intensified tensions in the Nellore political landscape ahead of the 2024 elections.
