In a significant infrastructure boost for Andhra Pradesh, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the construction of a 4-lane highway corridor from Badvel to Nellore. The project, set to be implemented under the Design-Build-Finance-Operate-Transfer (DBFOT) model, is estimated to cost Rs. 3,653.10 crore.
Spanning 108.134 kilometers, the new corridor will connect Gopavaram Village on National Highway 67 (NH-67) in YSR Kadapa district with Guruvindapudi near Krishnapatnam Port Junction on NH-16 (part of the Chennai-Kolkata corridor) in SPSR Nellore district.
The project is expected to reduce the travel distance between Badvel and Krishnapatnam Port by nearly 34 kilometers, cutting travel time by about one hour. This reduction will lower fuel consumption and vehicle operating costs, boosting economic efficiency and environmental sustainability.
The enhanced road infrastructure will also create substantial employment during development, generating an estimated 20 lakh man-days of direct employment and 23 lakh man-days of indirect employment. Furthermore, the improved connectivity is expected to catalyze economic activity and create job opportunities in the region.
The new corridor will provide improved access to Krishnapatnam Port and connect key nodes across three major industrial corridors in the state, including the Kopparthy Node on the Visakhapatnama Chennai Industrial Corridor (VCIC), the Orvakal Node on the HyderabadaBengaluru Industrial Corridor (HBIC), and the Krishnapatnam Node on the ChennaiaBengaluru Industrial Corridor (CBIC).
Officials stated that the project would enhance India's Logistics Performance Index (LPI), strengthening supply chain connectivity and boosting industrial growth in the region.
