Little effort, big gains: 2,604 schools in Nellore meet parents, teachers

SPSR Nellore district in Andhra Pradesh state, India, is making arrangements for a mega parent-teacher meeting (PTM) that will take place on Saturday from 9.30 am to 1 pm. District Collector O. Anand said approximately five lakh people are expected to attend the PTM, which is being organized by the government with a fund of INR 48 lakh (approximately $56,000).

The PTM will serve as an opportunity for parents and teachers to discuss the progress and needs of children and identify their strengths and weaknesses to help them learn and grow. Parents will also get to know the needs of the schools from the parents' perspective. District-, mandal- and village-level officials will attend every school.

Various committees have already been appointed in all schools for this purpose. Invitations have been sent to each student, and teachers have sent SMS messages to parents. Cultural programs will be hosted, and competitions will be held for mothers and fathers separately. Children will be given performance cards, and health tests will be conducted at 42 identified schools. Parents will receive health cards, and lunch will be provided.

A special control room has been set up to work from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., and each mandal will have a special officer appointed for management purposes. The district administration will hold Revenue Sadassulu from December 6 to January 8, 2022. Under the name Mee Bhoomi-Mee Hakku, revenue meetings will be conducted to resolve the land issues of the people. Officials from the Revenue, Forests, Endowments and Waqf departments will visit each revenue village to solve land issues at the village level.
