In a significant step towards a garbage-free Andhra Pradesh, the Swachh Andhra Corporation has awarded legacy waste remediation contracts worth Rs 62.4 crore to Blue Planet Environmental Solutions Pvt. Ltd. The subsidiary of Blue Planet that will be executing the work is Zigma Global Environ Solutions. The initiative will focus on the removal of over 9.2 lakh metric tons of legacy waste in various urban areas including Chittoor, Tirupati, Anantapur, Gudur, and two large dumpsites under Nellore and Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporations. This project aims to achieve several objectives such as unlocking valuable urban land, enhancing air and groundwater quality, reducing carbon emissions, and creating employment opportunities for unskilled and semi-skilled workers. In addition, the bio-remediation, bio-mining, and land reclamation activities align with the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2016, and the Central Pollution Control Board guidelines.
Prashant Singh, CEO of Blue Planet, emphasized the importance of this project in paving the way for a sustainable and circular economy by restoring land and empowering local communities. Zigmans director Ilangovan Thangavelu Kugalur stated that the company is eager to begin work on the project, which aligns with Indias vision of environmental restoration and community empowerment. Together, the teams involved strive to make Andhra Pradesh a shining example of a garbage-free state by October 2, 2025.
