Tirupati-based MP Vemireddy Prabhakar Reddy has petitioned the National Medical Commission (NMC) chairman, Dr. B.N. Gangadhar, to allocate new postgraduate seats in Orthopaedics and General Surgery departments at the A.C. Subba Reddy Government Medical College in Nellore.
The MP representing Nellore met with Dr. Gangadhar in Delhi on Thursday, submitting a request on behalf of the Andhra Pradesh Government Doctors' Association, Nellore branch. He emphasized the importance of these seats for the 2024-25 academic year, saying they would benefit young doctors and improve medical care for the underprivileged in the district. He also noted that this move would aid in the development of the district hospital.
Responding positively to the initiative, the NMC chairman assured that efforts would be made to address the request. This development aims to improve medical education in Nellore and enhance local healthcare services. According to Prabhakar Reddy, adding PG seats in these critical specialties will significantly impact medical education and healthcare in the region.
The MP asserted that this move will bolster medical services and empower young doctors working in government hospitals. The Andhra Pradesh Government Doctors' Association expressed hope that the NMC will favorably consider their petition, enabling enhanced healthcare services for the residents of Nellore.
