The government has allocated Rs 17 crore for the establishment of 29 parks in Nellore, a town in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh, to increase the green cover. The Nellore rural MLA, Kotamreddy Sridhar Reddy, laid the foundation stone for 14 parks on Wednesday, with the foundation stone for 15 more parks to be laid on Thursday and Friday.
Reddy also revealed that land sharks were encroaching on reserve lands designated for the establishment of parks across the Nellore rural assembly constituency. It is estimated that Rs 150 crore worth of lands are in illegal possession. He pointed out that realtors who should have handed over reserve lands to the Nellore municipal corporation continue to hold them illegally.
The MLA thanked the state government for allocating Rs 17 crore for the parks, and he said that works on all 29 proposed parks will be completed in 90 days.
