Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has detailed a new economic plan to develop the state's port infrastructure, involving the 1000 kilometre long coastline of Andhra Pradesh. The proposal aims to build a port or fishing harbour every 50 kilometres to fuel economic growth, employment opportunities and infrastructure development.
The Chief Minister, who held a meeting at the Secretariat with officials from the Union Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, emphasised the need to fast-track port infrastructure and maritime development projects. They discussed the progress of the ship building and repair cluster at Dugarajapatnam in Nellore, which was promised by the central government at the time of bifurcation.
The project, which is proposed to be developed on 2000 acres of land, will include a greenfield port, an integrated shipbuilding and repair hub with four dry docks, outfitting jetties and a ship-lift facility. The Chief Minister has instructed officials to formulate an action plan to advance the project and also explore river cruise circuits in regions such as Polavaram, Srisailam and Nagarjuna Sagar to boost tourism and local economies.
