Blind to Help

Over eight hundred patients benefited from a free medical camp in Vinjamur town, Nellore District, sponsored by local NRI Segu Sateesh and his family. The nine-day-long eye camp, conducted by the Chennai-based Sankara Nethralaya, screened 883 patients in total. Camp doctors recommended 188 patients for free eye surgeries to be conducted in modern mobile operation theaters, brought to the site for the camp. Forty-five other patients were recommended for surgery at Chennai for various eye issues.

The camp was inaugurated by Udayagiri MLA Kakarla Suresh, Yellala Raghu Rami Reddy, and Akhil Bharatiya Rashtriya Saikshik Mahasangh (ABRSM) State president Prof. Y.V. Rami Reddy, who made camp arrangements. Sankara Nethralaya's senior ophthalmologist, Dr. Gajanand Kumar Varma, expressed gratitude to the sponsors and organizers and praised the team effort. He explained that the camp aimed to provide screening and medical care to those who needed it most in this predominantly rural area. This camp clearly hit its mark, benefiting hundreds in need.

The success of this camp underscores the need for more medical initiatives like this in rural India, where accessing comprehensive medical care is challenging. Camp organizers have stated they plan to continue the camps in the future.
