Young brothers lost their lives after venturing into a reservoir for a leisure swim.

Tirupati: Two teen siblings drowned, when they ventured into the Kanigiri reservoir near Sangam in Nellore district for a leisure swim on Monday. The brothers identified as Venkata Chandu (15) of class X, and Venkata Nanda Kishore (13) of class VIII, were sons of Banda Govindayya and Seshamma, residents of NTPS Colony near Chinnapadugupadu in Kovur Mandal.

They went to Sangam to visit their relatives. On Monday afternoon, they ventured into the canal for a swim, unaware of the strong currents and the increase in depth following the release of water into the Kanigiri reservoir.

The duo were swept away within minutes after entering the water. Locals, who noticed the bodies informed the local police. The cops rushed to the spot and retrieved the bodies from the Kanigiri reservoir. A case was registered, and the bodies were shifted for post-mortem.

The incident serves as a grim reminder of the dangers of swimming in unfamiliar areas and the importance of water safety.

Parents mourn the loss of their children, and locals are shocked and stunned by the tragic accident.
