Blind to Care: Free Eye Camp Examines 883 Patients

In a testament to the importance of accessible healthcare, a nine-day-long eye camp conducted by Chennai-based Sankara Nethralaya at Vinjamur town in SPSR Nellore District concluded yesterday, having examined 883 patients. Sponsored by local NRI Segu Sateesh and his family, the camp provided much-needed medical attention, with 188 patients selected for free eye surgeries in mobile operation theatres brought to the town. Sankara Nethralaya's Dr. Gajanand Kumar Varma, a senior ophthalmologist, highlighted the camp's success, thanking the Segu family and local organizers Yellala Raghu Rami Reddy and Akhil Bharatiya Rashtriya Saikshik Mahasangh (ABRSM) State president Prof. Y.V. Rami Reddy. He praised the camp's ability to reach a predominantly rural area, providing critical eye tests and surgeries to those who need them.

The success of the camp underscores the need for continued efforts to make medical care accessible to all, ensuring that geography or economic means is not a barrier to receiving essential treatment.
